Rising Artist Program (RAP)

RAP, or Rising Artist Program, is designed for students in grades 6-12 who wish to become more engaged in their musical journey at CMCB. Formerly known as the Intensive Study Project, RAP students participate in a program of varied musical activities, including: private lessons, chamber ensembles, and music theory/ear training classes.  At the end of the year, each student will present an individual project on a musical subject of the student’s choosing at the Young Composers Festival.

Please come to RAP Open House on Saturday, September 6th from 2pm to 3pm to learn more!


The RAP Curriculum Includes:

  • Private lessons with a CMCB instructor (required, billed separately)
  • RAP Seminar (required)
  • Music Theory Course (required)
  • Creation and presentation of an individual music project or performance at the Young Composers Festival (required)
  • Participation in the Lapin competition (required)
  • Optional Courses Include:
    • Chamber Group
    • Departmental Seminar for your instrument
    • Music Appreciation
    • Graphic Scores
    • Chamber Orchestra
    • Composing for Performers
    • Musical Explorers: Sound as Expression


If you are interested in joining RAP, please begin by filling out the Student Interest Form by Friday, September 12th. Chamber Music auditions and Music Theory placements will occur on September 13th.
