Unleash your inner rockstar with this dynamic guitar class! Designed for ages 7–12, Pop/Rock Guitar & Accompaniment focuses on rhythm guitar chords, helping young musicians start playing their favorite songs quickly. Perfect for new students and those continuing from Beginning Guitar, this class explores guitar styles outside the classical repertoire, making it a great next step for budding guitarists.

What to Expect

Start Playing Right Away: From the very first class, students will create, read, and perform music.

Hands-On Learning: Over the first few weeks, students will master rhythm guitar chords and techniques to play popular songs. They’ll also explore improvisation and ensemble playing, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Practice at Home: Students should take their guitars home for extra practice. The more they practice, the better they’ll become!

Exciting Finale: Students will perform their favorite music in a Culminating Event, with additional performance opportunities available at CMCB.

This small group class builds on skills from Beginning Guitar and prepares students for private lessons, advanced group classes, and ensembles.

Prerequisite: Successfully completed Beginning Guitar for ages 4–7, OR assessment by Guitar and Early Childhood faculty. For eligibility questions, contact our Associate Director of the Community Music School, Jared Field, at jfield@cmcb.org.

Materials: Students should have a personal or rental guitar at home to practice.
