Musical Theatre Performance I (Ages 7-9)

Does your child love to sing, dance, act, and/or play make believe? Musical Theatre Performance (MTP) is the perfect place to nurture and grow those passions! In this class, students will develop confidence and core performing arts skills via creative expression pathways such as humor, improv, strategy games, innovative character analysis, story building, and free movement play. Students will also be introduced to a thorough survey of children’s musical theatre repertoire from the last 100 years of Broadway history and will have the opportunity to workshop and perform their own solos, duets, and group numbers. MTP provides a safe and inclusive space for students to collaborate with peers and deepen their observational, communication, and reflection skills.

Suggested Prerequisites: Beginning Voice and/or private voice lessons. Email franklin@cmcb.org with any eligibility questions.

Schedule: Tuesdays 4:30 PM

Musical Theatre Performance II (Ages 9-12)

Ideal for 4th-6th grade students, Musical Theatre Performance II incorporates many of the magical elements of MTP I while delving deeper into the process of mounting an actual musical production. In addition to preparing solos, duets, and/or group numbers, students will be introduced to more advanced theatre concepts such as rehearsal etiquette/procedure, ensemble dramatic dialogue and scene work, and preparation of a short monologue. Students will also get the opportunity to dip their toes into set design, costume design, playwriting, and even assistant directing! At the end of the semester, students will present a 15-30 minute curated cabaret show (think dinner theatre without the dinner), incorporating all the musical and theatrical concepts they have learned over the past 16 weeks.

Suggested Prerequisites: MTP I, private voice lessons, other vocal experience. Email franklin@cmcb.org with any eligibility questions.

Schedule: Tuesdays 5:15 PM
