Musical Explorers: String and Sing!

Saturdays, 10:00 – 10:45 AM
Instructor: Kavita Shankar and TBD
Ages: 4-7
Fall 2026: 16 weeks [September 12 – January 16]
Tuition: $480

This class guides our students into a wonderful exploration of two major musical families offered at CMCB! Each student will have the opportunity to explore their artistry, find their voice, and perform some fun and easy tunes.

Students will focus on violin and viola, but learn about all the orchestral string instruments. Students will also sing a range of music and learn solfege, music literacy, and ear training which will directly help their string playing as well!

This class will also prepare our students with music fundamentals including pitch, rhythm, harmony, composition, improvisation and ensemble playing. This class can also lead to wonderful opportunities of growth as a community in which students can graduate into semi-private lessons with a new friend from class, transition into their own individual private lessons or to one of our very popular group classes.

Our Musical Explorers classes give students the opportunity to try out a range of instruments. They’re perfect for students brand new to music-making, who don’t know what instrument they want to focus on yet (or who want to try out a range of them!)

What to Expect

Start Playing Right Away: From the very first class, students will create, read, and perform music.

Hands-On Learning: Over the first few weeks, students will explore the basics of string playing and singing, including string names, finger positions, and solfege.

Practice at Home: Students should take their instruments home for extra practice. The more they practice, the better they’ll become!

Exciting Finale: Students will perform their favorite music in a Culminating Event, with additional performance opportunities available at CMCB.
