Beginning Violin

Ages: 4-7
Instructor: Kavita Shankar

Join us for a survey of the Strings instrument family! Learn the basics of the Strings instrument family, music fundamentals, and begin preparation for private instruction in this first entry class.

Beginning Strings 1 is a small group class focused on forming a solid foundation for the beginning violinist. Each class is limited to 5 students and is designed to train the child’s ear to recognize melodic sounds and rhythm. Students will work on translating these new skills to the violin while maintaining a good posture and technique, and will be able to play simple melodies.

Beginning Strings 2 is a small group class focused on preparing students for private instruction in violin, Elementary group classes, and/or ensembles. Students will begin to visually identify notes and will play more complex songs and melodies. The students will gain more confidence as budding musicians.

Materials: Students must have at least one instrument already at home or be able to rent through CMCB or a third party (Johnson String). Contact us if you need assistance with instruments. Please note: Survey instruments (violins and cellos) will be chosen based on inventory and enrollment.

For any eligibility questions, please contact our Associate Director of the Community Music School, Jared Field, at jfield@cmcb.org. For questions about your child’s unique musical pathway at CMCB, please email us at registration@cmcb.org.
