Instructor: Carlos Herrand Pou
Ages: 7-12
Fall 2026: 16 weeks [September 15-January 12]
Tuition: $480

Beginning Drums II is designed for ages 7–12 who are newer to percussion or continuing from Beginning Drums I. Taught by Carlos Herrand Pou, students explore a variety of instruments—including snare drum, marimba, and xylophone—and build core rhythm and ensemble skills. It’s a hands-on class that helps prepare students for private drum lessons or school band. The semester ends with a performance for family and friends. This class is an excellent precursor to private drum set instruction!

What to Expect

  • Start Playing Right Away: From the first class, students will engage with a variety of percussion instruments, creating rhythms and melodies as they explore the fundamentals of percussion.
  • Hands-On Learning: Over the first few weeks, students will learn the basics of snare drum techniques, pitched percussion instruments, and rhythm fundamentals. They’ll also develop ensemble skills while collaborating with classmates.
  • Practice at Home: Students are encouraged to practice their techniques and rhythms at home to reinforce class activities and enhance their skills.
  • Exciting Finale: Each semester culminates in a performance showcasing the rhythms and melodies students have mastered, providing a chance to share their progress with family and friends.

This small group class is designed to prepare students for private percussion lessons or participation in school and community ensembles. It builds foundational skills while fostering a love for music-making.

Suggested Prerequisite: Beginning Drums I.

Materials: Students should have a drum pad at home to practice. CMCB offers instruments for rent if needed.
