An introductory percussion class for young children to explore rhythm and musicianship in a fun, hands-on setting. Taught by Carlos Herrand Pou, students will learn basic drumming techniques, rhythmic notation, and play a variety of percussion instruments. Instruments are provided for in-class use. The class prepares students for future private lessons and ensembles, with a small group size (up to 4 students) for personalized attention. There will be a culminating performance to share what they’ve learned.
What to Expect
Start Playing Right Away: From the very first class, students will create, read, and perform music.
Hands-On Learning: Over the first few weeks, students will master the basics of rhythm and percussion, including rhythmic notation reading and writing. They’ll play a variety of percussion instruments and explore the fundamentals of drumming technique.
Practice at Home: Students are encouraged to practice rhythms and skills learned in class to continue developing their musicianship.
Exciting Finale: Students will showcase their progress in a Culminating Event, with additional performance opportunities available at CMCB.
This small group class focuses on preparing students for private lessons, elementary group classes, and ensembles. Each class is limited to 4 students, ensuring individualized attention while fostering collaboration.
Materials: Students will use percussion instruments provided by CMCB during class. Additional practice at home is encouraged.
