Strings Faculty Instructional Lead, Bass, Cello
Kevin McLean Sullivan
Kevin is a double bassist, educator, and composer originally from Manassas, Virginia. He is a versatile musician with a rich background in multiple musical worlds beyond western classical, including bluegrass, metal, and many different experimental spheres. His love for a wide variety of musical cultures (and his affinity for blending them together) lent itself well to education, where he could draw upon a wealth of musical knowledge to address many students’ needs.
In addition to private teaching, Kevin has taught in classroom settings, co-directing the strings program at Boston Latin School. As a performer, he has played with orchestras, musical theater troupes, and rock bands across the eastern United States. He holds a particular fondness for the avant-garde, finding himself most at home when performing with the likes of the Ludovico Ensemble or the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra. Kevin is an strong advocate for double bass in chamber music and as a solo voice, and has composed, arranged, and recorded several works in that vein.
