Nan Ni

Described by the Boston Musical Intelligencer as “a confident, accurate, powerful articulate interpreter” with “limpid refinement”, Nan Ni was born in Anhui, China and began studying piano at the age of five.

Aside from being the first prize winner of the 2022 Fou Ts’ong International Concerto Competition, her other accomplishments include first prize at the Los Angeles Young Musician International Piano Competition, third prize at the Conero International Piano Competition, second prize at the Shenzhen Piano Open Competition. She’s also a three-time winner of the Piano Department Honors Competition at New England Conservatory. A recipient of the Tan Family Grant Scholarship at NEC, she was also awarded a Shanghai Government Scholarship and Niu Ende Piano Music Scholarship and won the Audience Award at the winners’ concert. She has performed in venues such as Jordan Hall, Williams hall, Shanghai Concert Hall, and Steinway Hall Shanghai. Nan is a frequent participant of many prestigious music festivals, including Summer Academy Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Music Academy of the West where she was awarded a full scholarship.

Nan is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree at NEC, where she earned both her Bachelor and Master’s degrees, and studying under Bruce Brubaker and Alessio Bax.

Nan is also an organist under the instruction of Thomas Handel at NEC. She has performed as a solo organist at the Church of the Covenant in Boston, as well as with the NEC concert choir and chamber singers. As an active chamber musician, she and her chamber music partners have won the first prize in the Chamber Music Competition at Shanghai Conservatory.

Apart from music, she holds great passion for ancient Chinese poetry and Pre-Raphaelite paintings.
