SummerMUSIC Students See The Lion King

In preparation for the Lion King field trip, Lecolion Zoomed into Josiah Quincy Upper School from Los Angeles to share his experience performing on the Lion King soundtrack with our SummerMUSIC students. Lecolion flew to Los Angeles in February to play bassoon as a part of the Re-Collective Orchestra that recorded the soundtrack. He spoke with students about the new movie, what it was like to record for the film, his career as a bassoonist/musician, what he does at CMCB, and also how this opportunity came about.

When he asked the students what they were most excited for, one student said, “I’m excited because this is the first time I’m going to the movies in my whole life!”

We also watched a video of  the Re-Collective Orchestra, composed entirely of musicians of color, after we finished speaking with Lecolion. He was part of this ensemble through his participation in Sphinx. He said that in the movie credits, the musicians are listed under that ensemble name. He spoke to the students about how much work is involved in films like this and how many people make it possible, just like the things that we do at CMCB.
