Camden Ward

Camden Christenson Ward is an oboist living in Boston with his roots based in coastal New Hampshire. In his playing and teaching, he strives to incorporate living into music and vice versa.

As a teacher, Camden has a background spanning all sorts of settings and subjects. Specific to the oboe and music, he has had students at the University of New Hampshire, New England Conservatory’s Summer Orchestra Institute, and Boston University and currently teaches for The Groton School, The Fenn School, the Community Music Center of Boston, and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. His time at these places is spent mainly with oboe students—prioritizing their needs and especially their particular interests—but he also enjoys his time teaching aural skills courses, woodwind method classes, coaching chamber music ensembles, directing rehearsals, as well as group theory and percussion instruction.

Having played on stages throughout the world as a soloist and ensemble member, he likes having a schedule that incorporates varied styles and settings into his day-to-day. He is a member of the Velvet Pastures Wind Ensemble as well as the Essex Ensemble and has been asked to collaborate of recent with the Maine State Ballet, Cambridge Chamber Ensemble, New Bedford Symphony, Cape Ann Symphony, Lowell Chamber Orchestra, MassOpera, Classical Uprising, and Streetlight Manifesto to name several groups.

He loves everything to do with food, drink, and hospitality having worked in the industry for over a decade. As founder of Tasting Notes LLC, Camden is creating a new music experience that pairs it to anything related to taste.
