CMCB at SphinxConnect

CMCB Staff at the 3rd annual SphinxConnect Conference in Detroit, MI

Last weekend, staff from CMCB braved the polar vortex to attend the third annual SphinxConnect conference for artists and leaders in diversity in Detroit, MI. The conference welcomed hundreds of musicians, industry leaders, educators, funders, diversity advocates, and administrators.

In addition to serving as principal bassoon of the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, Lecolion facilitated a panel on unique career paths in music with musicians Jessica McJunkins and Jannina Norpoth. McJunkins is violinist with the “On The Run Tour II” with Beyonce and Jay-Z and has also performed with such artists as Stevie Wonder, The Roots, and Yolanda Adams. Norpoth is violinist with PUBLIQuartet, a quartet that served as ensemble-in-residence at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, improvised alongside the final presidential debate in 2016 on the Stephen Colbert Show, and was recently awarded the 2019 Visionary Award from Chamber Music America.

A Night of Medieval Music – Corina Marti, Harpsichord

The next concert in the John Kleshinski Concert Series will be February 14, 2019. Harpsichord and recorder virtuoso Corina Marti will perform music created by composer Jan of Lublin. The music was found in a folio bound in 1540, belonging to a monastery near Lublin in Kraśnik, Poland.

Corina Marti is recognized internationally for her “strikingly superior and expressive” interpretations, and “infallible” performances. Additionally, her ongoing research into aspects of the repertoire and the reconstruction of Late Medieval and Early Renaissance keyboard instruments and recorders has contributed substantially to the present-day revival of these instruments.

The concerts are free and open to the public. Registration is required.
