Que Powell

Que (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in Opera. Que is a singer, song writer, social activist, and scholar with research that explores the syncretism between African Traditional Religions, Hoodoo, and the Black Church. The core of their professional praxis has centered around providing equitable access to the arts for youth from underserved communities and using music to influence social change. For the past 18 years they have either been teaching students of all ages, training teaching artists, or performing. Que is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and serves on the Ministerial Staff of the Historical Myrtle Baptist Church of West Newton. Previous roles that they have held include Regional LGBTQIA+ Affinity Space Facilitator for Families of KIPPMA, Fine Arts Instructor in Music for KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate, Professor of Voice at Bennett College, Community Engagement & Partnerships Manager for the Community Music Center of Boston, Student Advocate for Boston Bridge to Equity and Achievement in Music (BEAM), Teaching Artist for the Urban Voices Division of the Metropolitan Opera Guild, and City Music Boston Academy Instructor for Berklee College of Music. Que is currently the Vocal Music Instructor at Boston Latin Academy, and will be serving as music director for “Hadestown” in the Spring of 2025.
