CMCB Announces The Sandra Englehart Scholarship for Young Pianists

“Sandy was an incredibly enthusiastic teacher and cared immensely for the piano.  Her vibrancy and vitality within the educational community was exceptional.  I am very excited about this fund honoring Sandy and her lifetime passion – that of the gift of music.” – Erin Lindsey, Piano Department Chair

The Sandra Englehart Scholarship for Young Pianists is a merit-based opportunity for classically trained
piano students to receive acknowledgment for dedication to their art.

Sandy Englehart (January 29, 1937−January 20, 2012) was a lifelong pianist and a friend
to musicians of all ages. She taught music in the Newton Public Schools and gave private
instruction in her home for more than four decades, mostly for students
through the age of eighteen but for adults as well. Throughout her teaching career, Sandy’s
students performed twice a year in recitals she arranged for them. She was beloved for her
dedication to her students and to the classical repertoire she so devotedly shared with them.

The encouragement that the Sandra Englehart Scholarship for Young Pianists provides is in
accordance with the values of the Community Music Center of Boston, in that every person
should have the ability to learn an instrument regardless of financial circumstances. The
Sandra Englehart Scholarship for Young Pianists specifically aids the Music Center in encouraging
demonstratively serious piano students to further their learning and achievement.
