BEAM Launch

We have successfully launched the BEAM initiative, with a great launch party on May 10 with our partner organizations, Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras,Boston Symphony OrchestraNew England Conservatory, and Project STEP. Makayla Quashie, pictured here, performed the Eccles Violin Sonata in g minor for bass as part of the evening’s performances. We are so proud of Makayla for representing CMCB!

The BEAM initiative (Bridge to Equity and Achievement in Music ) is a region-wide collective of music organizations to support and sustain musical excellence among young musicians of underrepresented populations who aspire to careers in classical music . This work is possible thanks to substantial funding from the Mellon Foundation and is in its pilot year of programming.

We’re reaching out to our community to identify students who are enrolled in our programs and who would qualify to be in our inaugural cohort.  BEAM is open by application and audition to rising 6th – 12th grade students, residing in the Boston area, belonging to demographic groups historically underrepresented in classical music professions.  CMCB is looking for students who are passionate about music and might be considering music as a potential track for college — of course, with younger students, passion and zeal for music will weigh heavily in their acceptance decision, as college pathways have yet to be determined. If this sounds like you, please reach out to Quentin Powell , our BEAM student advocate.

Samantha Gambaccini’s Old & New: Musical Theatre

Samantha, mezzo soprano and our voice division chair, gave a stunning performance of classic and contemporary musical theatre songs on Thursday night. We were excited to have Morgan Beckford as the surprise guest on Summertime and Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man! Thanks to all who came and joined us for the last Kleshinski concert of the season. Named in memory of John Kleshinski, former Music Center Board President and student, our concerts provide a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy a diverse sampling of musical instruments and genres. Stay tuned for next year’s concert lineup.
