We are proud to be a partner in the Boston BEAM (Bridge to Equity and Achievement in Music) initiative.

What is Boston BEAM?

The BEAM creates a region-wide collective of music organizations for supporting and sustaining musical excellence among young musicians of underrepresented populations who aspire to careers in classical music professions. You can find more information at: https://www.bostonbeam.org/.

Who is eligible for BEAM?

BEAM is open by application and audition to rising 6th – 12th grade students, residing in the Boston area, belonging to demographic groups historically underrepresented in classical music professions. CMCB students engaged in School Outreach, Satellite, or the In-House Program are eligible for BEAM. Instruction for the following instruments is offered through BEAM: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, harp, and percussion. Students of all levels are encouraged to apply, and substantial financial aid will be provided to accepted students.

What will enrollment with BEAM look like?

The organizations participating in BEAM will extend musical instruction and opportunities to accepted students. BEAM students will have the opportunity to engage with the following organizations: Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, Community Music Center of Boston, New England Conservatory, and Project Step, with added experiences with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Programming includes private lessons, orchestral experience, chamber music experience, music theory, performance opportunities, one-on-one mentorship and more! Information can be found at: https://www.bostonbeam.org/programs.

How can I/my child/my student get involved in BEAM?

BEAM is an application and audition program, but CMCB is committed to assisting interested students and
families through the application process, if assistance is requested.
