SUMMARY:John Kleshinski Concert Series Presents the Rasa String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Rasa String Quartet finds their niche exploring the musical space where classical and folk traditions intersect and influence one another.\n\n\nThe Boston-based Rasa String Quartet finds their niche exploring the musical space where classical and folk traditions intersect and influence one another. They are the 2022-23 ensemble in residence at Phillips Exeter Academy and winners of the 2022 Associazione Europea Di Musica E Comunicazione International Chamber Music Competition (Italy\,) the 2021 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition (ATL\,) and the 2021 Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition (OH.) The quartet can be found collaborating with the preeminent folk musicians of today\, performing their own programs in venues and festivals around the country\, and participating in artistic and educational residencies at a variety of institutions. Inspired by the connection between music and storytelling at the heart of folk traditions\, Rasa String Quartet creates engaging and fresh programs that are approachable by a wide range of people. Educating their audiences by contextualizing the genres\, styles\, and composers they present\, they invite their listeners to experience a variety of both familiar and unfamiliar sounds with curiosity and openness. \nProgram: \nWilliam Grant Still: Summerland \nJerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate: Pisachi (Reveal) \nKorean Traditional: Gyeonggi Arirang Arr. CMCB’s Executive Director\, Lecolion Washington\, will be leading a lively panel discussion centered around equitable relationships between nonprofit arts organizations\, schools\, and philanthropy. \nWe’ll be joined by local leaders from Boston Public Schools for a discussion about planning and sustaining thriving school arts partnerships. \nRuth Mercado-Zizzo from EdVestors \nRuth Mercado-Zizzo is the Vice President of Programs and Equity at Edvestors. With her MFA in Theatre from Arizona State University and BS In Economics from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania\, she now facilitates ensuring overall internal and organizational programmatic efforts incorporate an explicit and specific focus on advancing racial equity\, including building an inclusive and equitable organizational culture and community. She is also responsible for overseeing the Racial Equity Seed Fund\, the Bloomberg Arts Internship program\, and all aspects of BPS Arts Expansion. \nKaren Gonzalez from the Joseph J Hurley School \nKaren Gonzalez is the Director of School Culture and Climate at the Joseph J Hurley K-8 School. Right now\, that means working with our schools and community partners to ensure that we’re collaborating in ways that’ll best serve our students’ needs. For partners\, it means thinking critically about how services they offer will benefit students\, especially those who are members of historically excluded communities. \nShe’s been at BPS for five and a half years\, after completing a Masters in Public Administration at Suffolk University. She studied psychology at Appalachian State University in Boone\, NC where her passion for community engagement was born. Details will be sent to all Eventbrite RSVPs. \nCommunity Conversations is a series of workshops with CMCB staff that seeks to engage others in dialogue about important issues in arts education. We want the voices of our students\, parents and partners to be heard. Join us to learn and share your experiences. \nAdditional information about registration and other events can be found at www.cmcb.org. This event is free for all to attend; please consider making a donation to CMCB to support this work.
