SUMMARY:Our Student Pathways in Practice
DESCRIPTION:A panel discussion with local leaders in arts organizations on how they embody CMCB’s innovative new Student Pathways program. Click here to register\, in person or virtual!\n\n\nHow does your relationship to music shape the direction of a potential career in the arts? Join us for a conversation featuring representatives from local arts organizations ProjectSTEP\, Zumix\, and Castle of our Skins and learn more about their personal journeys and career experiences that align with each of these musical pathways. \nThis program will be moderated by CMCB staff members\, Rachel Chao and Jared Field. Rachel Chao\, Community Engagement and Clinical Manager at CMCB\, is a music therapist that brings a passion for community organizing\, advocacy through storytelling\, and program creation. Jared Field\, Associate Director of the Community Music School at CMCB\, is a composer\, conductor\, music educator and clarinetist. Jared is coming to CMCB from Worcester Academy\, where he led instrumental ensembles\, choirs\, and chamber groups\, taught music theory and individual lessons\, and designed a music technology course. \nA journey in music can take many different shapes and forms. Some students are interested in being Performing Musicians\, in winning competitions or being competitive for admission to music conservatory. But many others are Community Musicians who make music for the kinship and camaraderie of working with other people. Some are Citizen Musicians\, who think about how their music affects the world or their sense of social justice: artistic activists\, teachers\, music therapists\, or liturgical musicians. And many more are Musical Explorers\, in an early stage of their journey learning about all the richness that music has to offer\, either through learning multiple instruments or in exploring multiple genres. To celebrate and formalize these many inspirations\, we devised a Student Pathways program. CMCB’s four student pathways offer a supportive starting place for conversations with both students and school administrators. While you may have heard CMCB staff and faculty talk about Student Pathways\, join us to hear the following professionals speak on their own experiences\, and how they align with the Program. \nSpeakers: \nJosue Gonzalez\, Executive Director\, ProjectSTEP \nCorey DePina\, Program Director\, Zumix \nDr. Ciyadh Wells\, Executive Director\, Castle of our Skins \nAJ Gaudreau\, Music Therapist\, CMCB \nModerators: Rachel Chao and Jared Field (CMCB) \nWe hope you will be able to join us for this event\, either in-person or through our Zoom broadcast! \n— \nCommunity Conversations is a series of workshops with CMCB staff that seeks to engage others in dialogue about important issues in arts education. We want the voices of our students\, parents and partners to be amplified. Join us to learn and share your experiences. \nAdditional information about registration and other events can be found at www.cmcb.org. This event is free for all to attend; please consider making a donation to CMCB to support this work.
